Foto & Andy

The most important part first: Whatever I say about me, my relationship with fotos, or what I think of any of the images is irrelevant. What you see when you look at the image, now that is something...

That said, here's my life around the lens:

About Fotos & Andy

First Foto: 7 years old on holiday by the sea with family, where the local electro shop ran a contest for a free pocket camera. I must have filled a billion slips, and danced when I won it...

Early Shots: While lining/loving Australia for a year in '95, a strict visa ensured work changes every 3 months. Between jobs, a fellow photographer lent a FE10 Nikon with a 20mm wide lens. There's likely a case for Fate when you get paid within 2 weeks of something totally new until you leave...

Foto Studies: Inspired by the invaluable 'live' learning in Oz mentioned previously, I study (sometimes obsessively, always with love) from whatever medium will give it up, and in these times there's plenty to choose from. While a 5 year pause from fotos for DJing may have slowed progress a bit, it was worth it for the vinyls, the memories, and the joy to returning to cameras.

Foto Subjects: To list anything here would imply that I would limit myself at any point. Stop with such silliness...

Foto Style: Boxes, boxes, coming out all the same. See above.

Manifesto: Don't have a manifesto.

Film or Digital?: Yes.

Inspirations: Bresson, Dali, Gaudi, Bauhaus, Chopin, Vonnegut, Einstein, Alabama 3, Buddha, my grandfather.

Final Word: Everything grows. Everything changes. Take what matters from the Moment, and don't be afraid to leave the rest behind.

.. In fact, don't be afraid of anything, it'll save us all so much time...

About Andy

Paths Followed: Native to Montreal, Canada until 18, then packed a backpack and bicycle to London UK in 1994. Since then resident in and around various European countries, notably and favorably London, Portugal, and Austria. Passed through too many places to list here, last recent 'journey' was 5 months in India, 2006. Based in Brugge, Belgium, cozy at home with the missus.

Pre Foto Work: Aside from initial work riding crazy as a cycle courier the early months of London, bar/club/food work paid many bills and costs of learning the foto trade, as well as the occasional travel of course. Post-catering and as a few-year pause to cameras, DJ interests (vinyl instead of film) cultivated over Portuguese summers was certainly nothing to complain about...

Favorite Color: Blue, and you?
