Harbor Retirement Associates’ first Midwestern project, HarborChase of Shorewood, is composed of a four-story, 59-resident assisted living and a single-story 41-resident memory care building. The 113,540-square-foot facility with 50 under-building parking spaces was designed with an “Urban Lodge” theme, acknowledging its unique location adjacent to the Milwaukee River and at the edge of the Village of Shorewood, Wisconsin.
Shorewood was looking for a new west entry “gateway” building to accompany the recently completed pedestrian/bicycle bridge that gracefully arches over one of two main thoroughfares through the Village. In addition, the Village Master Plan indicated that a senior care setting would be an advantageous addition to the community.
HarborChase of Shorewood embraces the gateway challenge with a contemporary exterior design that engages the street edge, complements the pedestrian bridge, and picks up on materials used around the Village’s west entry. With a core mission of lifestyle enrichment, HarborChase of Shorewood features an array of destinations to fuel body, mind, and spirit. Upon entering, the lobby’s high ceilings, heavy timbers, and historical Shorewood artwork infuse rustic luxury that is native to Shorewood.
A gentle mix of neutral-toned furniture provides a plethora of seating options for visitors and residents to socialize. Five different hospitality-infused dining spaces offer residents variety, including unique private dining experiences with family and friends or a quick snack accompanied by a glass of wine at the Bistro. Residents can enjoy primping and pampering at the upstairs salon or bowl a game at the Wii Bowling Alley. In the Memory Care wing, residents and guests can lounge in one of three living rooms or participate in activities in the light-filled double-height activity space. All of the spaces are filled with vintage imagery intended to provide gentle visual cues that reinforce memories of life in Shorewood.
