Challenged with removing the original terra cotta inlaid brick pavers in the basement, the yellow oak wood in the hallways and common areas, and the asbestos tiling in the hall bathrooms and replacing it with flush and seamless new flooring, Northwestern strove to maintain the integrity of the building’s original classic design. Matching the existing wood stain from the early 1900’s was crucial to succeeding. Installing Mohawk LVT tile in the bedrooms and studies, new subfloors and porcelain Dal-Tile in the bathrooms, Johsonite treads on the stairs; refurbishing the hardwood flooring in the hallways and common spaces; and replacing the basement pavers with Altro LVT created a building fit for 21st century Sigma Nu students.

Built in 1917, Northwestern University’s Evanston, IL campus has remained true to its original dark wood, classic design.
As the last renovation was in the 1980’s, Northwestern wanted to bring the building into the 21st century and upgrade it to meet the current building codes (fire sprinkler, ADA conformance, and electrical/plumbing/mechanical systems).
