Access flooring

Going beyond the surface — access flooring systems explained

Access flooring consists of an elevated structural floor placed above a solid base, usually a concrete slab. The primary purpose of this system is to create a space underneath that is well-suited for accommodating electrical wiring and HVAC ducts.

The structural floor is constructed using panels arranged on a grid and supported by adjustable vertical pedestals. These pedestals are secured to the subfloor either through mechanical fixings or adhesives. Thanks to their adjustability, the gap between the raised floor and the subfloor can vary, ranging from 3 to 48 inches.

The panels are typically 2×2 feet in size and are commonly made with a core of cement or wood covered with steel or aluminum cladding. This design allows the panels to be compatible with various flooring finishes, such as vinyl, linoleum, laminate, rubber, carpet, and stone or ceramic tiles.

A national leader in underfloor air distribution

Underfloor Air Distribution (UFAD) solutions provide effective answers to indoor air pollution challenges in any environment. This technology ensures proper stratification of indoor air, facilitating the displacement of “old” air and eliminating stagnation. However, we don’t compromise aesthetics for functionality; our flooring solutions always please the eye.

  • Modular peel-and-stick carpet and LVT tile for versatile and attractive flooring options.
  • Delivering clean air, power, and data solutions seamlessly to your space.
  • Being the trusted flooring provider for many of the nation's largest and most influential companies.
  • Emphasizing sustainable design and materials to align with your ambitious green initiatives.

Optimized Heating and Cooling

Access floor systems efficiently distribute conditioned air, enhancing heating and cooling effectiveness.

Key considerations for planning an access flooring system

When incorporating a raised floor system into a construction project, vital aspects must be weighed for a smooth, secure, and prompt installation, maintaining intended structural strength. Raised floors provide advantages, like adaptability and aesthetic choices, benefiting different occupants. Sharing concerns with your contractor eases planning, such as:

  • Subfloor requirements: Address sealing, wet/dry contamination, structural integrity, tamp finish, and moisture/alkalinity levels.
  • Local grounding conditions: Ensure proper grounding for the access floor.
  • Door threshold interaction: Consider how the system interacts with door thresholds.
  • Safety guidelines: Verify relevant safety standards, particularly for fire suppression systems.
  • Load-bearing needs: Evaluate stationary, rolling loads, and pedestrian traffic requirements.
